PolEvator™ Installation at the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal
30 December 2011
Many don't realize that the third busiest canal in the world is right here in the U.S. The Chesapeake and Delaware Canal (known as the C&D Canal) connects Chesapeake Bay with the Delaware River, and is used by foreign and domestic shipping, tugs, barges, and recreational boats. Over the past several years the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which oversees operations of the canal, has been engaged in a number of upgrades. And Videolarm's PolEvator™ has become a major part of the new CCTV system. Officials wanted to be able to clearly see canal traffic. CCTV integrator NetVersant Solutions of Chesapeake, MD was chosen to find a solution. "They wanted to place cameras on the bridges across the canal," said Tom Steg, president of NetVersant, "but they didn't want them on the superstructures." The PolEvator™ was the perfect answer."
